Fifty Shades of Grey actress Emily Fonda and myself (Michelle) support a charity in Vancouver called Chimo Community Services in which has started a campaign online to help spread awareness about woman and children who are dealing with domestic violence and where they end up because of it.
Half of all women in Canada have experienced at least one incident of physical or sexual violence after the age of 16. Tragically, in BC, there is a shortage of second-stage housing options available for women fleeing domestic violence. In fact, there is a shortage of secondstage housing across our nation and as a result, nearly 200 Canadian women are turned away every night from full shelters.
Chimo Community Services is preparing to raise $100,000 to build second-stage housing for women fleeing domestic violence. An effort such as this is unprecedented in our province’s history and it is our privilege to be on the forefront of positive change.
