NEWS: New Interview with Marcia Gay Harden discussing Fifty Shades Darker
Marcia Gay Harden returns to the role of Mrs. Grey in 2017's "Fifty Shades Darker," and she hinted that a scene from the books involving Elena Lincoln and her character is on the way.
On Wednesday's Access Hollywood Live with Natalie Morales and Kit Hoover, Marcia discussed filming a particular confrontation between Mrs. Grey and Elena (played by "Fifty Shades" franchise newcomer Kim Basinger), the woman who seduced Christian (Jamie Dornan) when he was just 15.
"There's a scene, it's a party... and she comes in and they're having some argument and my character understands what happened with them -- not all the details, but she understands that she abused him and I slap her," Marcia said, previewing the book-to-big-screen scene. "And the fans... are very excited to see what happens there. And Kim and I, we did the scene again and again -- of course we do the fake slap -- but my character's a mother, she's a mother bear."
The second installment in the "Fifty Shades" trilogy has been described as more of a love story between Christian and Anastasia (Dakota Johnson), something Marcia expanded on.
"Well, it is and I think that is part of the success of the story, that -- first of all -- she does what every woman in the world does, she sees a guy who's sort of renegade, in this case, he has a lot of money, and she wants to change him, so that only she is the one that he'll love. And that's what happens -- only she becomes the one that he loves, and he does change where he kind of gives up some of the more -- the things in his life that have caused difficulties in favor of love, but it's love with a lot of toys, and a lot of fun," Marcia laughed.
"Fifty Shades Darker" hits the big screen on Valentine's Day 2017, but this Wednesday night, Marcia can be seen in the Season 2 premiere of her CBS medical drama "Code Black."
The new season will see the introduction of a new doctor played by Rob Lowe.
"We know each other from the New York circuit, so when I saw him, it was just like old home week. It was fantastic. And our characters are very much the same," she told Natalie and Kit. "They're both sort of badasses and renegade cowboy doctors a little bit."
Boris Kodjoe's character, Dr. Will Campbell, has a new job on the show. Will takes on a role previously held by Marcia's character, Dr. Leanne Rorish.
"It's a welcome demotion because Leanne didn't want that job anyways. It's an admin job. There's a lot of paperwork that goes to it and she likes kind of being very hands-on, and she likes teaching -- that's what she does best," Marcia explained. "So his character is promoted now to the head of the ER and the OR and it creates a lot of conflict for us on the set and it's fantastic. Behind set, off the set, Boris is tall dark and handsome, and is just as kind as can be."
"Code Black" airs Wednesday at 10/9c on CBS.
